March 23, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release
SOUTHAVEN, MS --- The Youngstown Steelhounds erased a 3-0 second period RiverKings lead with three third period goals in a 4-3 win at the DeSoto Civic Center Friday night. The Steelhounds remain tied with Oklahoma City for the fourth seed in the Northern Conference after the Blazers defeated Wichita. The RiverKings, waiting to see if it will be the Blazers or the Steelhounds as a first round playoff opponent, will wrap up the regular season with a Fan Appreciation Night meeting with the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs at the DCC tomorrow at 7:05. The first 1,500 fans will receive a 15th Anniversary T-Shirt sponsored by Double Deuce Saloon, Backyard Burger, Bounz and the Maddox Foundation. Fans are also being encouraged to wear white for the White Out. Fans that wear white can get a ticket for $5.
After a scoreless first period Friday night, the RiverKings got rolling with three goals in the first 5:59 of the second period. Ryan Held scored his 19th of the season 31 seconds in, Jason Sessa tallied his 30th at 3:48 and Ryan Campbell's 28th of the season at 5:59 was shorthanded and made the score 3-0.
The Steelhounds cut the lead to 3-1 when Stephen Margeson scored 1:03 after Campbell's shorty.
The Steelhounds, who had not played since Sunday while the RiverKings were coming off a road win last night in Oklahoma City, seemed to have the fresher legs in third period, out-shooting the RiverKings 13-7 and outscoring them 3-0. Shaun Landolt, Dallas Anderson and Jeff Christian all lit the lamp in the third period.
The Steelhounds finished with the advantage in shots on goal at 37-32. Brad Roberts was the winner in net for Youngstown, stopping 29 of 32 shots. Larry Sterling took the loss for Memphis with 33 saves.
Despite not knowing who they will play in the first round, the RiverKings do know for sure that their first two home games of the playoffs will be next Friday, March 30 at 7:05 and Sunday, April 1 at 4 pm.
