Relay for Life to be featured in regular season finale
March 23, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release
SOUTHAVEN, MS --- Saturday night, as the RiverKings wrap up the regular season against the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs, at 7:05pm at the DeSoto Civic Center, Relay for Life of DeSoto County will be highlighted as the featured non-profit of the night.
Relay for Life is the signature fundraising program of the American Cancer Society.
This annual walk takes place throughout the nation. This year's DeSoto County Relay for Life event will begin Friday, May 11 at 4pm and run until 6am Saturday, May 12. The walk-a-thon will be held at Snowden Grove Park.
"We are excited to participate in the RiverKings featured non-profit night," said Susan Fernandez, Chairwoman of DeSoto County Relay for Life. "This is a great way for us to get Relay for Life into the community and to reach new folks. The RiverKings are so supportive."
The RiverKings are proud to have a team this year to participate in the DeSoto County Relay for Life. Helping to raise funds for the RiverKings team, players are allowing fans to choose the color of their hair.
RiverKings players were approached with the idea earlier this month to dye their hair for the playoffs. Fans are being asked to donate money as a vote for the color they would like players to dye their hair.
"We are very excited about this," commented Rice. "This is a great way to build team spirit and help a wonderful organization at the same time. We are excited to have a Relay for Life team this year, and help out the American Cancer Society."
DeSoto County Relay for Life is composed of teams who participate in the annual Relay for Life walk. This Saturday at the RiverKings game Shea South will represent Relay for Life by dropping the ceremonial pre-game puck. South is a long time team captain for Maples Memorial United Methodist Church.
Individuals interested in joining a team should visit the DeSoto County Relay for Life website at www.acsevents.org/relay/ms/desoto or contact Susan Fernandez at 901.489.0321.
"While we invited everyone to come out and attend, walk and help to raise money, we especially want survivors to come out to the event," encouraged Fernandez. "They are why we do this in the first place. We hope that every year we have more survivors to participate than the year before."
Stop by the Relay for Life table, behind section 117, Saturday for further information on Relay for Life and how you can help the American Cancer Society.
