
Laredo Falls 4-2 To Rio Grande Valley

HIDALGO, Texas - The defending CHL President's Cup Champion Laredo Bucks gave up three power play goals and fell 4-2 to the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees at the Dodge Arena on Friday night in a first round playoff preview. Despite the loss the Bucks clinched the #3 overall seed in the CHL playoffs and they remain a Southern Conference best 41-16-5. Laredo finished 9-4-1 against the Killer Bees. Bucks playoff tickets are now available. Games One and Two are Friday, March 30th, and Saturday, March 31st at the LEC. Face off at 7:30 p.m. both nights. Neither team lit the lamp in a scoreless first period.
Early in the second the Killers Bees exploded. Forward Dennis Maxwell cut down the slot and snapped home a wrist shot just 43 seconds into the period. Then on a power play chance forward Jason Cirone scored on another wrister from the slot at 1:58. With a two man advantage forward Rob Voltera ripped home a rocket shot from just inside the left circle at 3:54 to make it 3-0 Killer Bees. Laredo got some momentum when forward Bobby Chaumont found a loose puck in front and scooped it home at 10:47 for his 27th of the season.
In the third period the Bucks drew closer as forward Chris Korchinski put in a rebound at 5:46 for his 24th of the season. Rio Grande Valley answered as forward Matt Reynolds scored the third power play goal of the evening at 9:29 to retake a two goal lead and finish the scoring. FINAL SCORE Rio Grande Valley 4, Laredo 2.
Eric Marvin allowed four goals on 26 shots and fell to 20-8-4. Jeff Van Nynatten stopped 31 of 33 and improved to 10-12-3. The Bucks were 0-5 on the power play while Rio Grande Valley finished 3-7. Laredo out shot the Killer Bees 33-26.
