Odessa Jackalopes News Release
Odessa, TX - Steve Shrum's seventh round shootout goal went unmatched and the Odessa Jackalopes claimed a 4-3 shootout win over the Lubbock Cotton Kings Friday night at the Ector County Coliseum.
Odessa jumped out to a 2-0 lead through the first period of play with a pair of goals 2:25 apart. Jay Latullipe opened the scoring 8:21 into the contest by wristing a shot past Kings goaltender Anthony Feyock from the right slot. Pascal Bedard followed with a shorthanded goal 2:25 later by flinging a wrist shot past the glove side of Feyock.
Lubbock bounced back in the second period and tied the game with a pair of goals. Anders Strome tallied his second shorthanded goal of his career just 54 seconds into the period, cutting the Odessa lead to 2-1. Twelve minutes later, Marc Bianchi cranked a slap shot through traffic and past Jackalopes goaltender Derek Dolson to tie the game at 2-2.
Odessa regained the lead 6:07 into the third period with a power play marker by Latullipe for his second goal of the game. The Jackalopes did not maintain the lead for long, as Philippe Lacasse tipped a Strome shot through a scrum across the goal line to tie the game at 3-3 on the power play just 51 seconds later. Strome's assist gave him his 200th career professional point.
The game remained tied the rest of the way and even through the five minute overtime portion to force the game into overtime. Matt Cressman and Strome each tallied shootout tallies, but Kyle Nosan could not match Shrum's wrist shot past the glove side of Feyock.
Dolson stopped 26 of 29 shots for the victory for Odessa, while Feyock suffered his first overtime loss stopping 31 of 34 shots. Odessa out-shot the Kings 35-29 and both teams were 1 for 5 on the power play.
The game was the final road game of the season for Lubbock, and their road record ends at 9-20-3 on the season. The Kings wrap up the season at the City Bank Coliseum Saturday hosting the Amarillo Gorillas at 7:05 PM.
