Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA -- The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs of the Central Hockey League today announced that rookie goaltender John DeCaro has been selected as the CHL's Most Outstanding Goaltender for the 2006-2007 season.

The announcement comes only days after DeCaro was named to the All-CHL and All-Rookie Teams. The Everett, Washington, native has been a pillar of success since being thrust in to the number one spot after All-Star goaltender Ken Carroll went down with a knee injury on December 16th.

"Johnny had some very big shoes to fill this season and it's become a banner year for him, I couldn't be happier for him," said Mudbugs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Scott Muscutt.

The 24 year old goaltender has posted a record of 22-7-4 while leading the league with both a 2.27 goals-against average and .929 save percentage. DeCaro was selected to the 2007 CHL All-Star Game and has been promoted to the Philadelphia Phantoms of the Amercian Hockey League on two occasions, appearing in two games.

This is the fourth time the Mudbugs have received the honor of Most Outstanding Goaltender. Kevin St. Pierre was bestowed the honor in 1997-1998 (WPHL). Ken Carroll was selected twice, once in 2005-2006 (CHL) and once in 2000-2001 (WPHL).

This year's Most Outstanding Goaltender was determined by balloting from CHL head coaches, communication departments and media from each market. The Mudbugs return to action tonight in a 7:35 PM contest against the Tulsa Oilers at the Tulsa Convention Center.
