New York Boulders News Release

Pomona, NY - The New York Boulders brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning, but couldn't complete their comeback from four runs down, dropping their third straight game with an 11-8 loss to the Ottawa Titans in the series opener at Clover Stadium.

Ottawa (12-24) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a leadoff HR by RF Jake Sanford vs. RHP Holden Phelps (L

/ 5 IP, 6 R (5 ER), 7 H, 1 BB, 5 K).

New York opened a 5-1 cushion in the second, getting RBI singles from CF Ryan Vogel and Marte, sandwiching a two-run single by SS Austin Dennis. But the lead evaporated in the top of the third, with Ottawa taking advantage of a leadoff walk, two doubles, two singles, an error and a balk to nose ahead 6-5.

The Titans went up 9-5 in the fourth, thanks to three straight doubles and a two-out single, but the closest the Boulders would get was 9-7 after seven.

Also of note:

* RF Ryan McCoy (2-for-4) and 2B Fritz Genther (1-for-5) both extended their hitting streaks to seven games

* Marte had a 3-RBI game for the second time on the home stand

* RHP Erik Stock came off the injured list to pitch a 1-2-3 fifth inning in his first appearance since May 28

RHP Garrett Cooper (3-0) takes the mound tomorrow (Saturday) night for game two of the series, with first pitch scheduled for 6:30pm EDT.
