Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

Lakewood, N.J. - The Lakewood BlueClaws (14-26) and the Hagerstown Suns (26-14), Single-A affiliate of the New York Mets, continued their series at FirstEnergy Park on Wednesday afternoon. The Suns had the tying run on at third in the top of the ninth but could not push it across as Lakewood held on for a 3-2 win.

Lakewood took a 3-1 lead into the top of the ninth but the inning started off bumpy for closer Jacob Barrack (S, 2). Wilson Batista led off the inning with a walk then with one out Mike Carp connected for an RBI double to put runners on second and third.

Grant Psomas stepped up next and connected for an RBI single scoring Batista to cut the lead to 3-2. Right-fielder Ryan Frith came up throwing on the play to get the runner at home. Catcher Derek Brant didn't even attempt a tag on the runner, instead popped up and threw down to first to get Psomas who took a wide turn at the bag. First-baseman Greg Isaacson applied the tag for the second out of the inning.

Barrack was able to get next batter Ambiorix Concepcion to strikeout to close out the game and preserve the win for the BlueClaws with the tying run on third.

Lakewood gave starter Andy Baldwin (W, 1-3) a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Greg Isaacson led off the inning with a walk then moved up to second on Brant's grounder. With one out John Hardy connected for an RBI double to put the BlueClaws up 1-0. Lakewood added another run on Chris Klemm's RBI base hit scoring Hardy from second.

Baldwin ran into trouble in the seventh inning allowing one run to score to cut the lead to 2-1. Psomas put the Suns on the board with an RBI double. Baldwin struck out the next batter then was lifted for left-handed reliever Kyle Allen who got the final out of the inning striking out Conception.

Baldwin pitched 6 2/3 allowing one run on four hits while walking one and striking out seven. Mike Dzurilla gave the BlueClaws the insurance run they needed in the eighth inning with a lead off solo homer, his second of the year. The homer also extended his hit streak to 10 games.

Happ (3-1, 2.74) will go the mound for the BlueClaws while the Suns will counter with right-hander Gabriel Hernandez (2-1, 2.74).
