
Braves Slip Past Jackets

Rome, GA- The Rome Braves won their second game of the series Wednesday afternoon against the Augusta Greenjackets 2-1 in front of 3,611 fans.
Rome got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning on a Van Pope solo home run making the score 1-0. Augusta tied the game in the top of the sixth on a Brad Vericker single scoring Brian Horwitz.
The Braves won the game in the bottom of the ninth as Dean White walked after one out. Carl Loadenthal then singled advancing White to second. Matt Young then hit the ball to first baseman Carlos Sosa who then threw wide of second base in an attempt to force the baserunner and Dean White came around to score the winning run.
Atlanta Braves pitcher Kevin Gryboski pitched one shutout inning for Rome on a Major League rehab assignment. Angelo Burrows (1-1) picked up the win for the Braves in relief while the losing pitcher was Tim Alvarez (0-1).
Rome plays Augusta again tomorrow at 7pm in the third of a four game series at State Mutual Stadium. For ticket information call 706-378-5144.
