RHP Randy Vanderplow Released

CHARLESTON, SC – The New York Yankees announced Wednesday that they have released RHP Randy Vanderplow. RHP Kevin Rival, who was signed by the Yankees as a free agent, will be added to the Charleston RiverDogs' roster.

Vanderplow went 3-1 with a 4.24 ERA in 14 games for the RiverDogs. The reliever struggled on the road as he posted an 8.71 ERA away from Riley Park, as opposed to a 0.69 ERA at "The Joe." He was signed as a free agent by the Yankees in 2004.

Rival pitched in the Milwaukee Brewers' organization in 2004 and the beginning of this season before being released. The right-hander went 0-1 with a 6.43 ERA in six games for the Brevard County Manatees of the Florida State League this season. He was signed as a free agent by the Brewers in 2004 and went 1-1 with a 2.81 ERA in 13 games for the Beloit Snappers of the Midwest League in 2004. Before joining the Brewers, Rival pitched for three seasons in the independent Frontier League.

In addition to releasing Vanderplow, RHP Carlos Rosario was transferred to extended spring training. Rosario went 2-1 with a 7.04 ERA in 12 appearances with Charleston.

The RiverDogs have three games left in their eight-game homestand as they take on the Columbus Catfish Wednesday night. The gates open at 6 pm as the RiverDogs salute the US Military and SPAM on SPAM on Spuds/Military Appreciation Night, presented by WTMA 1250-AM. The first pitch between the RiverDogs and the Catfish is at 7:05 pm.
