Blue Shows Resiliency in Comeback Win over Reno
January 10, 2015 - NBA G League (G League)
Oklahoma City Blue News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY - For the second night in a row, the Oklahoma City Blue overcame a double-digit deficit by fighting back from 18 down to top the Reno Bighorns, 130-127, on Saturday at the COX Convention Center. Oklahoma City Thunder forward Grant Jerrett was one of three Blue players to record a double-double, posting 22 points on 9-of-15 shooting alongside 11 rebounds in 30 minutes.
Oklahoma City native Xavier Alexander scored a career-high 30 points with 10 rebounds in 24 minutes and Talib Zanna tallied 14 points and 14 boards. Reggie Williams produced 22 points, eight rebounds and seven assists and Maurice Sutton added 10 points and six boards.
Reno outscored the Blue 36-26 in the opening quarter and built a 54-36 lead midway through the second, but Oklahoma City closed the half on an 11-4 run to trail by eight at halftime. The Blue continued to close in on Reno by using a 20-5 run in the heart of the third quarter to take a three-point lead. The Bighorns responded with a run of their own and took a 97-33 lead into the fourth.
After trailing 112-105, the Blue strung together a 13-4 run to take a 118-116 lead with 3:47 remaining. The Blue didn't trail for the remainder of the night and locked down on Reno's final possession to prevent a game-tying three-point attempt by David Stockton.
Oklahoma City has now won three consecutive games. In four of its last five wins, the Blue has overcame a double-digit deficit.
"Good resilience by our guys," said Blue Head Coach Mark Daigneault. "The style that Reno plays also enables you to have large runs and swings in the game. That's just a byproduct of how they play so we knew going into the game that there were going to be some runs in both directions and we just had to stay the course mentally and emotionally to stay in the game. Our guys did a good job of responding."
The Blue (11-10) outrebounded Reno 61-43, tying a franchise record for rebounds that had been set earlier this week in a win over Idaho. During OKC's last three games, the Blue has outrebounded its opponents 170-108 (56.7 to 36.0 per game).
Reno (8-10) was led by Ra'shad James with 25 points, four rebounds and three steals.
Oklahoma City returns to action at the COX Convention Center on Tuesday against the Los Angeles D-Fenders at 7 p.m. For more information, visit OklahomaCityBlue.com.
