Texas Legends News Release
FRISCO, TX - The Texas Legends finished off their weekend double-header with a loss to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in the teams' second matchup of the season. Despite 31 points from Eric Griffin, the Vipers rolled through Frisco, capturing a 118-106 victory and holding the Legends to a season-low 8% outside shooting.
Griffin got off to a hot start, combining with Damion James for 11 of the Legends' 23 first-quarter points. The lead changed five times in the first, but a pair of missed Texas free throws allowed the Vipers to hold a 24-23 lead at the buzzer. James continued to strike in the second, adding six boards to his six points but the team was shutout from the three, going 0-7 and widening the gap to 11 points at the half.
The Vipers took control of the second half immediately, firing off a long ball to set the tone. The Legends remained scoreless from outside the arc as the deficit increased to 17. Ricky Ledo snagged 21 points and 5 rebounds in the fourth, but the Legends were unable to forge a comeback, evening the season series 1-1 with their in-state rivals.
Ledo led all scorers with 31 points, while Damion James (19 points, 13 rebounds) and Justin Jackson (12 points, 11 rebounds, 8 blocks) each added double-doubles.
Christapher Johnson powered out 30 points to lead the Vipers while Clint Capela added the team's only double-double of 12 points, 12 rebounds and a team-high 6 blocks.
The Legends will travel to Santa Cruz, CA next for the NBA Development League Showcase. Texas will face the Bakersfield Jam in their first game at 12pm CT on Thursday, Jan. 15th. All Showcase games will be broadcast live on the D-League's YouTube channel.
