Buffalo Bisons News Release
BUFFALO, NY - Another first inning outburst by the Buffalo Bisons paced the team to a 6-2 victory over the Columbus Clippers on Wednesday night at Sahlen Field.
Just like last night, the Bisons jumped on Columbus in the bottom of the first inning for a 4-0 lead. Otto Lopez promptly extended his hitting streak to 15 straight games with a leadoff base hit. He scored on an RBI single by Gabriel Moreno. After Vinny Capra reached base on a fielder's choice, Nathan Lukes belted a three-run home run to extend the lead to four. Last night the outfielder hit a two-run homer in the first for Buffalo.
The team extended the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. Moreno added two more RBIs on a line drive single to left field. His three RBIs give him 35 at Triple-A this season. Stevie Berman and Lopez scored on the base hit.
Bowden Francis started for the Herd and went two scoreless frames. Six relievers followed the righty after his start.
Zach Pop made his Bisons debut with an inning of relief against Columbus. The Brampton, ON native was acquired at the trade deadline from the Miami Marlins. Pop recorded a pair of strikeouts while issuing a walk in his scoreless frame.
Hayden Juenger worked a pair of scoreless innings while allowing one walk and striking out two. Julian Merryweather also worked a scoreless frame on a Major League injury rehab assignment.
Matt Gage worked the ninth inning and allowed a two-run homer to Ernie Clement that allowed the Clippers to breakup the shutout attempt, 6-2.
The Bisons also made several defensive gems to help secure the victory. Rafael Lantigua made a pair from third base that saved a pair of base hits.
The Bisons will look for their seventh win of the season against Columbus on Thursday afternoon. The two teams are scheduled for a 1:05 p.m. first pitch from Downtown Buffalo.
