Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC - Bulls right fielder Josh Lowe homered twice and first baseman Jonathan Aranda extended his hit streak to thirteen games, however Sounds designated hitter Joey Wiemer smashed three hits, including a grand slam, in Nashville's 9-2 win over Durham on Wednesday evening at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
Wiemer got the scoring started with an RBI double to right in the second, before bashing a grand slam in the fourth as part of a five-run fourth that put the Sounds ahead 5-0. Lowe later went deep in the bottom of the fourth for the Bulls' first tally, however, Nashville responded via a three-run seventh to go ahead 9-1. Lowe would then launch his second homer of the night, another solo shot, in the last of the seventh.
Lowe (3-4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI) recorded three hits to pace the Bulls batting order, and has now homered three times in his last two games. Aranda reached base with a single in his final at-bat in the eighth inning to extend his team-best hit streak to 13. Since August 9 he has hit .396 (21-53) with seven runs, three doubles, two homers and 17 RBI.
Sounds starter Josh Lindblom (6.0 IP, 2 H, R, ER, BB, 7 SO) scattered two hits and one walk, yielding alone earned run over six innings to earn the victory. Bulls righty Luis Patino (4.0 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 3 SO), meanwhile, suffered the defeat.
The two teams are set to meet again on Thursday evening, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35pm. Tampa Bay Rays RHP Yonny Chirinos is expected to start for Durham as part of his Major League Rehab Assignment, while Nashville is expected to give the nod to LHP Ethan Small.
