Buffalo Bisons News Release

The Buffalo Bisons hung in and stuck around into the eighth inning Wednesday, where they threw a knockout punch to beat the scuffling Syracuse Mets 4-3 in the series opener from NBT Bank Stadium

Trailing 3-2 headed into the eighth, after leading once and twice tying the game and falling behind earlier in the game, the Bisons snatched the lead back for good.

Richard Urena clobbered his fifth home run of the year into right field and out of the stadium to knot the game at three. Logan Warmoth followed slapping a double down the left-field line and scored on a Nash Knight single that gave the Bisons' 4-3 lead for good.

Hit by hit and walk by walk, the Bisons' offense utilized every on-base opportunity they could to stay within striking distance of the Mets down the stretch.

Buffalo first grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second after Nash Knight drew a bases-loaded walk to drive home Cullen Large. But after falling behind 2-1, Urena and Juan Graterol went old school in the sixth and worked Tyler White home after a leadoff double with a pair of flyballs. The RBI was Graterol's 14th of the season, tied for third among catchers in Triple-A East league.

T.J. Zeuch also had a hand in allowing the Bisons a late-game opportunity to snatch the victory. Zeuch worked six innings, threw 93 pitched and allowed just three runs on four hits and exited with the Bisons down 3-2.

The 6'7 righty worked ahead in counts using his fastball, which stayed around 91-94 MPH, and he utilized his curveball that finished off the plate with two strikes. However, Zeuch mostly pitched to contact striking out just four and inducing eight flyouts to earn a no-decision.

After Zeuch exited, Kirby Snead came in and earned the victory, his second of the year, and Hobie Harris earned his fourth save as the Bisons' relievers surrendered no runs over the final three innings.

The victory is nice, but the Bisons' offense was a ticking time bomb ready to explode at time. The Bisons gathered eight hits and drew four walks and but was just 1-10 with runners in scoring position. After averaging, 6.5 runs per game against the Rochester Red Wings last week the Bisons are in for more run production if they keep putting runners on base as they did Wednesday.

The Bisons (23-18) will attempt to ride their momentum into Thursday's doubleheader with the Mets (11-31). The first game is slated to begin at 5:05 p.m. with the Bisons' Thomas Hatch expected to work opposite Mets' lefty Thomas Szapucki.
