Durham Bulls News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Bulls first baseman Dalton Kelly homered and second baseman Kevin Padlo collected two hits, however Jumbo Shrimp starter Shawn Morimando tossed six quality innings while designated hitter Chad Wallach and second baseman Isan Diaz both went yard in Jacksonville's 3-1 win over Durham on Wednesday evening at 121 Financial Ballpark.
Morimando (6.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 6 K) earned the win with six solid frames, yielding a lone run on four hits, while relievers Sean Guenther (2.0 IP, 2 H, 2 K) and Steven Okert (1.0 IP, 2 H, K) combined for the final three scoreless innings, with Okert notching his fourth save. Bulls starter Joe Ryan (5.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 5 K) suffered the defeat, while righty David Hess (2.1 IP, 2 H, 4 K) fired two-plus strong frames of support.
It was Kelly's second-inning blast, his seventh big fly of the season, that got the scoring started. Jacksonville, however, answered in the last of the second when Wallach went deep. Diaz's solo shot in the fifth gave the Jumbo Shrimp a 2-1 advantage before Jacksonville plated an additional tally in the eighth. The Bulls threatened in the ninth and put the tying run on base, yet were unable to narrow the margin in the final frame.
Kelly (2-4, R, HR, RBI) and Padlo (2-4) each posted multi-hit efforts in the defeat. LF Josh Lowe went hitless in three at-bats to snap his six-game hit streak.
The two teams are set to square off again on Thursday evening, with first pitch set for 7:05pm ET. RHP Drew Strotman is expected to toe the rubber for the Bulls, while LHP Brandon Leibrandt is slated to start for the Jumbo Shrimp.
The Bulls are scheduled to return to Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Tuesday, June 29 to start a six-game series with the Gwinnett Stripers. First pitch of that game is slated for 6:35pm ET. Tickets for that game and all remaining Bulls home games are now available at durhambulls.com.
