Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders had their eight-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday night at Coca-Cola Park in a 3-2 extra-inning win for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.
Trey Amburgey finished the game 1-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and a walk, extending his on-base streak to 32 consecutive games. He now stands tied for the RailRiders record with Brandon Drury's 32-game on-base streak from the 2018 season.
The RailRiders took the lead in the top of the third inning when Andrew Velazquez hit a leadoff home run against Ramon Rosso. The blast was Velazquez's third of the season and second in the last two games.
Brody Koerner got the start for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and lasted only 2.0 innings, allowing no runs on just one hit and walking two while striking out two. Reggie McClain followed and tossed 2.0 scoreless innings, while Greg Weissert contributed a scoreless sixth for the RailRiders.
Lehigh Valley broke even in the bottom of the sixth, when Austin Listi brought in Nick Maton with an infield single against Sal Romano to tie the game at 1-1.
In the top of the eighth Amburgey tripled to right field against David Paulino, chasing home Socrates Brito and giving the RailRiders a 2-1 lead. The advantage, however, was short-lived as the IronPigs scored a run against Nick Goody to even the ledger at 2-2.
Brooks Kriske had his best outing of the season for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, throwing three perfect innings of relief as the game stretched into extra innings. In the bottom of the 12th, Luis Garcia entered and after automatic runner Dalton Guthrie stole third, allowed a single to Charlie Tilson to win the game for Lehigh Valley.
The game was the longest regular season contest played by the RailRiders since the automatic runner in extra innings rule was introduced for the 2018 season. SWB used seven pitchers in the game, a new season-high and also stole a season-high four bases.
The RailRiders continue their six-game set with the IronPigs on Thursday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with coverage on the RailRiders Baseball Network beginning at 6:45 p.m. RHP Nick Nelson (0-0, 1.99) gets the call for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, while Lehigh Valley counters with RHP Julian Garcia (0-2, 7.13).
The RailRiders return home to PNC Field on Tuesday, July 7 to begin a series with the Syracuse Mets. For tickets and more information, call (570) 969-BALL or slide to www.swbrailriders.com/tickets.
