July 16, 2007 - International League (IL1)
Buffalo Bisons News Release

TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Charlotte Knights in the first game of a four-game series from Knights Stadium (7:15 p.m.). The Herd is already 2-2 on this eight-game roadtrip, having split a series in Durham with the Bulls. On the mound tonight will be LHP John Koronka. The southpaw will be making his Bisons debut after being claimed by the Indians last Tuesday off the waivers (Texas). The Knights will counter with LHP Andrew Sisco.

NORTHERN LEADERS: The Bisons have been in first place in the IL North division since May 5 (73 consecutive days). Their current lead is 1.5 games over second-place Scranton/WB. The Herd's lead peaked at 4.0 games on July 6.

ROAD WARRIORS: With 28 wins in 47 games, the Buffalo Bisons have the second best road record in the International League (.596 winning percentage). The Herd trails only Richmond, who is 31-20 away from The Diamond this year.

BISONS DEBUT: LHP John Koronka is making his Bisons debut tonight. The southpaw went a combined 6-6 with a 5.17ERA in 16 starts between Triple-A Oklahoma and Texas before being placed on waivers by the Rangers. The 27-year old owns a career Major League record of 8-11 with a 6.02ERA in 29 games with Texas and the Chicago Cubs.

SMOOTH CRIMINALS: Trent Durrington stole his 12th base of the season last night, tying him with Brad Snyder for second on the team (Ben Francisco, 15). As a team, the Bisons have had 14 different base stealers in 2007. The team is now 4th in the IL with 87 steals on the season.

TWO'S BETTER THAN ONE: Outfielder Jonathan Van Every became the fourth Bisons player to hit two home runs in a single game this year. The last to do it was Hector Luna on July 2 against Rochester. With six home runs in only 30 games, Van Every leads the Herd with a homer every five games. He has also posted a .558 slugging percentage with Buffalo.

HOT BAT: Outfielder Brad Snyder is hitting .345 (10-29) in nine games in July. He has two triples, two home runs and six RBI for a .690 slugging percentage. Snyder has also drawn five walks in July, giving him a team-high .429 on-base percentage this month. Once on the base paths, he is a perfect 4-4 stealing second in July.
