Louisville Bats News Release

LOUISVILLE, KY- Two first inning errors put the Bats behind early to the Durham Bulls, and Durham pitcher J.P. Howell befuddled the Bats on offense through seven innings to help defeat Louisville 4-2. A crowd of 8,914 at Louisville Slugger Field watched as the Bats dropped their fourth of five games since the All-Star Break.

Howell (4-6, 3.81) surrendered two runs and five hits on the night and struck out ten to earn the win. Chad Orvella pitched two scoreless innings of relief to get the save (13).

Bats starting pitcher Elizardo Ramirez (1-2, 3.68) never seemed to get into a groove. He struck out seven but gave up eight hits and three runs on the way to the loss.

Durham's Ben Zobrist and Jason Pridie led off the game with back-to-back singles, and the two errors - both on attempted pick-off plays - helped get two runs home. Pridie, who went 3-for-5 on the night, ripped a triple in the fifth driving in Zobrist and gave Durham all the runs they would need.

Jesse Gutierrez hit a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh and went 1-for-4 for Louisville with two RBI.

The Bats continue play in this eight game home stand tomorrow night. Louisville's RHP Homer Bailey (6-2, 3.06) is set to take on Durham's RHP Jae Seo (3-1, 3.94), with first pitch scheduled for 7:05.
