Charlotte Knights News Release
FORT MILL, S.C. - July 16, 2007 - Chicago White Sox outfielder Darin Erstad has joined the Charlotte Knights to begin his minor league rehabilitation assignment. Erstad was placed on the 15-day disabled list back on June 23 with a sprained left ankle. He sprained the ankle during a June 22 game against the Chicago Cubs in the first inning after aggravating the injury he initially suffered during his sixth-inning at-bat on May 31 at Toronto. Erstad was on the disabled list from June 1-21.
Erstad is hitting .264 (48-182) with two home runs and 21 RBI in 47 games with the White Sox this season. He is in his first season with the White Sox after agreeing to terms on a one-year, $1-million contract, which includes a 2008 club option, on January 25.
Erstad is a two-time American League All-Star (1998 and 2000) and the only player in major-league history to win the Rawlings Gold Glove Award® as both an infielder (2004) and outfielder (2000 and 2002).
