TONIGHT'S GAME: Is the third of a four-game series and the fifth of 12 meetings; the fifth of six at Cooper Stadium and the third of six straight between the Braves and Clippers. The Braves are 3-1 vs. Columbus. Richmond is 343-392 all-time vs. the Clippers. Columbus is in their first season as a Washington Nationals affiliate. It is the 25th of 48 games vs. West Division clubs and the 19th of 24 on the road. Richmond is 14-10 vs. the West, 10-8 on the road. Game five of a six game road trip (Richmond is 2-2). The Braves are in first place in the International League's South Division by four games over Durham.
LAST NIGHT'S GAME: The Clippers beat the Braves 6-1 Sunday at Cooper Stadium. The Clippers banged out 12 hits to even the series at a game each. Columbus moved in front with a run in the third on an RBI force out by Bernie Castro. The Clippers upped their lead to 3-0 in the fourth on a two run double by Juan Brito. Richmond scored their lone run in the seventh on a pinch hit RBI single by Graham Koonce. The Clippers stretched their lead to 5-1 in the seventh on an RBI single by Lance Broadway and an RBI double by Brito. Columbus tacked on another run in the eighth on an RBI ground out by Castro. John Lannan earned the win. Blaine Boyer took the loss. Doug Clark had three hits for the Braves. Broadway had four hits and Brito added three RBI for Columbus.
ON THE LEADER BOARD: The Braves lead the International League in ERA (3.45), shutouts (11), and fewest home runs allowed (54). The Braves are second in stolen bases (93). Richmond is tied for the league lead in fielding percentage (.983 with Toledo). Martin Prado is ninth in the IL in hitting (.311). Gregor Blanco is tied for second in runs scored (60). Braves catchers lead the IL in percentage of opposing runners thrown out trying to steal (63-115 .452). Corky Miller leads all catchers in caught stealing percentage (32-68 .471). Iker Franco has thrown out 50% (18-36) but has not played enough games to qualify.
CLARK IS SUPERMAN: Doug Clark has raised his batting average 32 points in the last 13 games (.238 to .270). He had his fifth three-hit game of the season last night (tying him with Brayan Pena for the club lead), and his 23rd multi-hit game of the year (second on the club behind Martin Prado). Clark has hits in seven straight games (15-26 .577). He has five hits in his last six at bats. Clark has raised his average 81 points in two months (he was hitting .189 on May 15). Clark has three straight multiple-hit games (seven for his last 10).
ALSO HOT: Martin Prado has a 10 game hitting streak (16-43 .372). He is one game short of the club season high of 11 by Brayan Pena (ended June 12). Pena has a five game hitting streak (10-19 .526). Gregor Blanco's seven game hitting streak and Larry Bigbie's five game hitting streak ended last night.
UNGRACIOUS GUESTS: The Braves have not had a sub-.500 road trip yet this season. Richmond is .500 or better in every International League park except Charlotte (1- 3). The Braves 31 road wins is the most in the IL. Following this road trip the Braves play 33 of their last 49 games at The Diamond.
NUMBER CRUNCHING: The Braves are 15-10 vs. National League affiliates. Richmond is in a stretch of 12 straight games vs. West Division clubs. The Braves have made 74 roster moves this season and used 47 players. 11 different R-Braves have earned major league call-ups in 2007.
