Kalamazoo Wings News Release

KALAMAZOO, MI- Former Kalamazoo Wings goaltender Jordan Binnington made his NHL debut for the St. Louis Blues against the Carolina Hurricanes at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis last night.

Binnington, 22, spent the 2013-14 season with the Kalamazoo Wings and appeared in 40 games, registering a 23-13-3 record, with a 2.35 goals against average and a .922 save percentage.

In his debut last night, Binnington relieved Blues starter Brian Elliot, and played 12:47 of the third period. He made three saves on the four shots he faced in a 4-1 Hurricanes win.

Binnington is the third former Wing to make his NHL debut this season (Alex Grenier (Vancouver), Yanni Gourde (Tampa Bay)), and became the 585th former ECHL player to reach hockey's highest level in the league's 28-year history.

In roster news, Sacha Guimond has been activated off the 21-day injured reserve and will make his debut tonight against the Quad City Mallards at iWireless Arena. The game is scheduled to face off at 7:05 p.m. CST. The action can be heard on AM 1660 The Fan in Kalamazoo.

Guimond, 24, gears up for his second tour of duty with Kalamazoo in 2016. The defenseman suited up in 42 games for the Wings in 2014-15 before finishing the season in the Slovak Extraliga.

A native of Ville-Marie, Quebec, Guimond burst onto the scene during his rookie campaign in 2012 with the San Francisco Bulls and Gwinnett Gladiators. In 58 games (33 with SF, 25 with GWT), Guimond led ECHL defensemen with 37 assists and 59 points, earning him ECHL Defenseman of the Year honors. He was also named to the ECHL's First All-Star Team and All-Rookie Team that season.
