Prince George, BC - The Prince George Cougars delivered an unforgettable performance, earning a remarkable four-point weekend, highlighted by a heart-pounding come-from-behind 7-5 victory over the East Division-leading Medicine Hat Tigers. The electrifying showdown took place on Sunday at the CN Centre, leaving 5600 enthusiastic fans in awe.
The game reached its climax when Bauer Dumanski, fired home the game-winning goal in the final minutes of the third period, propelling the Cougars to a hard-fought victory.
The action-packed encounter began with the visiting Medicine Hat Tigers setting the tone in the opening period, as Caden Lindstrom found the back of the net on the power-play at 17:12. The Cougars responded swiftly, with Terik Parascak delivering a league-leading 14th season goal on the power play, evening the score at 1-1.
In the second period, Hunter St. Martin briefly put the Tigers ahead with a perfectly executed tip in the slot, but the Cougars responded with Ondrej Becher's eighth goal of the year. Moments later, Koehn Ziemmer and Riley Heidt combined for a spectacular goal, giving the Cougars a 3-2 lead.
Becher continued his scoring prowess with a power-play marker, but Medicine Hat stayed in the game, closing the period 4-3.
The thrilling rollercoaster of a game continued in the third period, as the Tigers regained the lead with goals from Shane Smith and Caden Lindstrom. With the momentum swinging, the Cougars called a timeout to regroup. Captain Hudson Thornton delivered a pivotal power-play goal, tying the game at 5-5. The historic goal for Thornton set a new franchise record for the most power-play goals by a defenceman.
The climax of the game occurred with just 1:17 remaining in the third period, when Bauer Dumanski unleashed a rocket from the left circle, leaving goaltender Evan May with no chance and sending the CN Centre crowd into a frenzy as the Cougars secured a 6-5 lead. Terik Parascak sealed the victory with an empty-net goal, finalizing the score at 7-5 and igniting a raucous celebration among Prince George fans.
