Winterhawks Prospects Earn Medals at 2023 WHL Cup

Red Deer, Alta. - The Portland Winterhawks Hockey Club is proud to recognize prospects Owen Chapman, Griffin Darby and Jordan Duguay for winning medals at the 2023 WHL Cup, held last week in Red Deer, Alta.

The 2023 WHL Cup showcased the top 2008-born players from British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. All 22 players selected in the first round of the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft will compete at the event.

Competing with Team Saskatchewan, Chapman and Darby won the bronze medal after a 6-2 win over Team B.C. Chapman posted three assists in five games, while Darby logged key minutes on the blue line. Both players were selected in the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft - Darby in the first round, #17 overall, and Chapman in the third round, #59 overall. Darby put pen to paper with the Hawks on June 22, while Chapman signed on Sept. 8 following a strong Neely Cup showing.

Meanwhile, Duguay starred for Team Alberta, finishing tied for third in tournament scoring with eight points (2G, 6A) in five games as his team won the silver medal. The native of Edmonton, Alta. was selected by the Winterhawks in the second round, #39 overall of the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft and signed with the team on June 23.
