Winterhawks Weekly: Win Streak Continues as Hawks Hit the Road

October 23, 2023 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Portland Winterhawks News Release

Thanks to a pair of dominant performances last week, the Winterhawks enter this year's Eastern Conference road trip on an absolute tear with wins in eight straight games. The team hits the road to Alberta coming off of an 11-1 win over Brandon at the VMC on Wednesday and a 5-1 win over Everett on the road Saturday, with nine different players riding point streaks.

First stop: Red Deer on Friday for a date with the Rebels, followed in short order by stops in Edmonton (Saturday) and Calgary (Sunday). Catch all the action with WHL Live on CHL TV

Hot Hawks:

Forward Kyle Chyzowski posted his first career hat-trick in Wednesday's rout of Brandon, then followed up with another goal and an assist in Saturday's win in Everett. The Hawks' alternate captain has points in three straight games and is up to 13 points in nine games on the year.

Forward Josh Zakreski put his playmaking ability on display with a goal and six assists last week, highlighting his first two multi-point showings of the year. The 2024 NHL Draft prospect has points in five games and is up to 12 (2G, 10A) total on the year.

Forward Josh Davies posted two goals and a helper on Wednesday, then struck again on Saturday. The Florida Panthers prospect has found the scoresheet in all five games played this season and has scored in each of his last three outings.

Forward Diego Buttazzoni scored twice on Wednesday and added an assist on Saturday to keep his season-long point streak alive. A top prospect for the 2024 NHL Draft, Buttazzoni leads the team in goals (8) and ranks third in points (13).

Defenseman Luca Cagnoni picked up five assists in two games last week, stretching his point streak to five games. The San Jose Sharks prospect has already recorded four multi-point performances and ranks eighth in scoring among WHL defensemen.

Play of the Week:

With 16 total goals scored last week, there are plenty of excellent options to choose from. But we'll go with this Harlem Globetrotters-esque alley-oop pass from Marcus Nguyen to Josh Davies on Wednesday to set up the latter's second goal of the night!
