
Big Inning Gives Red Sox Win Over Indians

INDIANAPOLIS -- Pawtucket used an eight-run, seven-hit top of the fifth to post a 9-4 win over Indianapolis and salvage the final meeting of a four-game series in front of 11,309 Thursday night at Victory Field.
The Red Sox improve to 32-38 overall and 16-17 on the road, while the Indians fall to 43-29 on the season and 24-14 at home. Friday will be the Tribe's 67th consecutive day atop the International League's West Division.
Thirteen men came to the plate in Pawtucket's big inning. SS Ed Rogers got things rolling with an RBI double to left. LF Jacoby Ellsbury followed with a two-run single to center. 2B Joe McEwing then tagged a run-scoring triple to left.
CF David Murphy got in on the action moments later with an RBI single to right. RF Brandon Moss then kept the hit parade alive with an RBI double to left. 1B Bobby Scales pushed across the seventh run with an RBI single to left, while the final score came via a wild pitch.
All nine Pawtucket starters found the hit column at least once, while seven individuals scored and six others notched at least one RBI. Scales (2-for-3, 2 R, 1 RBI), Rogers (2-for-4, 1 R, 1 RBI), McEwing (2-for-4, 1 R, 1 RBI) and Ellsbury (2-for-5, 2 R, 2 RBI) all recorded multi-hit games.
Indianapolis plated two runs in both the third and seventh frames. C Carlos Maldonado highlighted the third with an RBI single, while LF Michael Ryan and CF Matt Kata clobbered solo homers in the seventh. Maldonado (2-for-4, 1 RBI), Ryan (2-for-4, 2 R, 1 RBI) and Kata (2-for-4, 1 R, 1 RBI) all registered multi-hit efforts.
Red Sox LHP Kason Gabbard (6.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 6 SO) improved to 7-2 with the win, while Indians LHP Shane Youman (4.2 IP, 9 H, 8 R, 8 ER, 1 BB, 7 SO) fell to 3-6 with the loss.
Thursday's attendance figure was the Tribe's largest from a weeknight game this season. The Indians are now averaging over 7,000 fans per game through 37 openings.
Indianapolis opens a four-game series at Toledo on Friday at 7 p.m. RHP John Wasdin is slated to make another Major League rehab start for the Indians, while LHP Jon Connelly is expected to get the nod for the Mud Hens.
The contest will be carried by ESPN-950 AM and IndyIndians.com with Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley. The pre-game show begins at 6:40 p.m.
