Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC - The Durham Bulls and Fidelity Investments are teaming up for sports equipment drives on the four Saturday fireworks nights this season to benefit the Durham Bulls Youth Athletic League. Those who donate new or slightly used bats or gloves will receive a commemorative baseball, courtesy of Fidelity and the company's Inspire the Future program.
On June 30th, August 4th, August 18th and September 1st, the Bulls and Fidelity will be collecting donated equipment at the main entrance of the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. All donated items will go directly to young people participating in the Durham Bulls Youth Athletic League, which provides recreational baseball free-of-charge to youngsters in the city's most economically disadvantaged neighborhoods.
Baseball has come to play an increasingly important part in the lives of the more than 500 boys and girls, ages 6 to 15, who participate in the Durham Bulls Youth Athletic League.
"The DBYAL is extremely important to us. We are very pleased that Fidelity is so committed to the Durham community and to helping provide opportunities for children who otherwise would not have the chance to play ball," said Mike Birling, General Manager of the Bulls.
"As a growing part of the Triangle community, Fidelity and its employees are investing in opportunities to inspire future generations of athletes, musicians, workers and leaders," said Don Haile, North Carolina site general manager, Fidelity Investments. "We are pleased to partner with the Durham Bulls Youth Athletic League to introduce young people to the joys of baseball and the life lessons it teaches."
In addition to sponsoring the equipment drive, Fidelity associates have volunteered their evenings and weekends to mentor and coach DBYAL teams this season. Fidelity will also distribute a special offer for Bulls fans on equipment drive nights. For every coupon redeemed for a complementary investments review at its Durham investor center, Fidelity will donate an additional $50 to the youth athletic league.
These initiatives are part of Fidelity's Inspire the Future program to raise awareness and build support for youth initiatives in communities throughout the country. Through partnerships with local sports and performing arts organizations, the program seeks to provide unique opportunities for young people to expand their interests, develop their talents and inspire their futures as the next generation of athletes, artists and community leaders.
