Jewett Headed to All-Star Futures Game
June 21, 2007 - International League (IL1)
Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis Indians Manager Trent Jewett has been invited to the 2007 XM All-Star Futures Game, which will be played on July 8 at AT&T Park in San Fransisco, Calif. The contest is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. EDT and will be televised live on ESPN2.
The game, which features many of the Minor League's top prospects, is set up in a United States vs. World format. Each roster consists of 25 prospects selected by Major League Baseball, in conjunction with the 30 big league clubs, MLB.com and Baseball America. Jewett will serve as one of six coaches for the World Team.
Each Major League organization is represented and the World Team features players from 11 different countries and territories. Players from all full-season Minor League teams were eligible to participate.
Jewett guided Indianapolis to a 154-132 regular-season mark in his first two years at the helm. The 2006 Indians earned a share of the International League's West Division crown after going 76-66, while the 2005 Tribe went 78-66 before advancing to the Governors' Cup Finals. Indy had not enjoyed back-to-back winning seasons since 1999-2000.
The 43-year-old is in his third season as manager of the Indians, 10th campaign as a Triple-A skipper and 16th year as an instructor in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization.
Indianapolis owns the best record in all of Triple-A Baseball (43-29) through 72 games this season. The Indians have also led the IL's West Division for 66 consecutive days.
The Pittsburgh Pirates organization will be represented by Jewett, INF Steven Pearce (Double-A Altoona) and RHP Serguey Linares (High-A Lynchburg).
