Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

GARY - The Sioux Falls Canaries took advantage of two Gary SouthShore RailCats miscues to score four fourth-inning runs and defeat the RailCats 4-2 in front of 3,460 fans at U. S. Steel Yard.

After Eddie Rivero and former RailCats infielder Ron Bush hit back-to-back doubles to open the inning and give Sioux Falls a 1-0 lead, Rich Rodrigues reached on a dropped third strike, with RailCats catcher Rene Pinto electing to attempt to pick off Bush at second rather than throw Rodrigues out at first.

The RailCats then botched a bunt play, with 3B Sean Murphy throwing away Curt Lee's sacrifice, an error that allowed Bush to score. RailCats starter Tony O'Donnell (3-4) retired the next two hitters on a strikeout and a comebacker, but yielded a two-out, two-run single to Felix Pagan, a hit that provide what turned out to be the deciding runs.

The RailCats managed just two runs on eight hits off Sioux Falls starter Chad Johnson (7-5). Wes Chamberlain batted 3-for-5, knocking in his league leafing 57th run with an RBI-single in the fifth, and doubling and scoring on Pinto's RBI-single in the eighth inning.

The RailCats (9-14 second half, 24-44 overall) continue the weekend series with the Sioux Falls Canaries Saturday at U. S. Steel Yard (6 p.m. first pitch). Each of the first 1,000 kids (13 & under) inside the U. S. Steel Yard gates Saturday receives a free RailCats souvenir batting helmet, courtesy of Westfield Mall and Indiana 105.

Saturday's game can also be heard on the RailCats Radio Network (on WEFM 95.9 fm, the Region Sports Network on 1230 am, and www.sportsjuice.com) beginning at 5:45 p.m.
