Coastal Bend Aviators News Release
Robstown, Texas â The crowd of 3,484 was in for a treat Friday night at Aviators Stadium as the first 1,500 fans received inaugural season baseball card team sets of the first-ever Aviators team, skydivers landed on the field during the National Anthem and newcomer Carlos Adolfo went 3-for-4 in his Aviators debut as Coastal Bend topped the San Angelo Colts 7-2. Jake Carney took the win for the Aviators to raise his record to 6-2 while Jess Turner took the loss for the Colts to drop his record to 5-6.
Coastal Bend began their tirade early in the game scoring a run in the bottom of the first inning. Carlos Adolfo led off the inning with a single followed by a single by centerfielder Eric Battersby. Adolfo was able to score when Cris Colon hit into a fielder's choice. The score remained 1-0 Coastal Bend until the bottom of the forth inning. Jermaine Swinton singled to start off the inning and after Scott Merkich and Edwin Maldonado each grounded out, Swinton scored on a single by catcher Gregg Maluchnik. The Colts finally answered back with a run of their own in the top of the sixth inning when Andrew Hanson tripled to start off the inning and scored as the next hitter, Buck McNabb grounded out to Aviators second baseman Mark Bugger.
The Aviators sealed the victory scoring five runs in the top of the sixth. Edwin Maldonado was granted a walk to start off the inning and later scored on a single by single from Mark Bugger. Carlos Adolfo doubled to move Bugger to third and after an intentional walk to Eric Battersby, third baseman Cris Colon singled to score Bugger. Next batter Matt Mann smacked a single up the middle to score Adolfo and both Colon and Battersby scored on a single by designated hitter Scott Merkich.
The Colts brought in one run in the top of the 8th inning, but it just wasn't enough as Coastal Bend took game one of the three game series from San Angelo.
The Aviators play game two of the three-game series tomorrow night at Aviators Stadium. Don't miss World Championship Midget Wrestling after the game brought to you by KCCG, Rock 107.3! Brian Langen (5-3) will get the call for Coastal Bend while the Colts send David Kuiper (2-4) to the mound. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
