Big First Inning Not Enough as 'Cats Fall to Spinners

August 10, 2015 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Tri-City ValleyCats News Release

TROY, NY - Despite a two-run double by Aaron Mizell, and RBI's by Pat Porter and Alexander Melendez in a four-run first inning, the Tri-City ValleyCats fell to the Lowell Spinners 7-4 on Monday night, at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium.

After the Spinners scored on a solo home run by center fielder Andrew Benintendi in the top of the first inning, the 'Cats put all nine batters up to bat in the bottom of the first.

Antonio Nunez singled to right field to start the frame, before moving to third on a fly ball by Brooks Marlow that was dropped by the Spinners left fielder.

One batter later, Mizell drove a double to left field that brought home both Nunez and Marlow, giving the 'Cats a 2-1 lead.

Before the inning was done, Mizell would score on a single by Porter, and Bobby Wernes would come home on an RBI groundout by Melendez, as the 'Cats built a 4-1 lead.

Unfortunately, the Spinners fought back with two runs in the fifth inning, and four in the sixth, before holding the 'Cats bats in check for the rest of the game.

Right-hander Harold Arauz had a productive start for Tri-City, tying a season-high with six strikeouts in four innings.

The Spinners and ValleyCats will have a quick turnaround, as they will return to "The Joe" on Tuesday for an 11 a.m., first pitch, concluding this three-game series on Camp Day, presented by Dig Safely New York. On the mound for Lowell will be RHP Dioscar Romero (2-3, 4.84), with RHP Ralph Garza (1-1, 2.59) getting the start for Tri-City.
