
Tigers Roar Past 'Days in Game Two of Series

NORWICH, CT - At one point the Doubledays led 4-1, but the Tigers finally broke out the bats starting in the fifth and ultimately defeated Auburn 10-5 to take game two of the series and clinch the series.
In the bottom of the first, the Tigers got on the board quickly. With one out, Pat Mackenzie walked and stole second. AJ Simcox then dug in and brought him in with an RBI single to give Connecticut an early 1-0 lead.
Two innings later in the third, the Doubledays finally got on the board. Victor Robles singled and advanced to second on an error. The speedy outfielder then came around to score on a bloop single to center by Max Schrock.
The very next inning in the fourth, the Doubledays added another. Rhett Wiseman singled into left and advanced to second on a wild pitch. The third round pick then scored on Randy Encarnacion's single to center to give the Doubledays at 2-1 lead.
With two outs in the fifth, Auburn added another pair. Schrock reached on a fielder's choice while Kelvin Gutierrez reached on an error before both scored on a double to left by Diomedes Eusebio. After four and a half, the Doubledays led 4-1.
The Tigers' bats finally started to wake up in the fifth. Joey Havrilak led off with a single to center and scored on Shane Zeile's double into left. Three batters later Victor Padron knocked in Zeile with a single of his own into left to put the score at 4-3 in favor of Auburn.
In the sixth is when Connecticut finally took back the lead. Will Allen led off with a single before Havrilak launched a two-run homer down the left field line to give the Tigers a 5-4 lead. Zeile and Steven Fuentes then hit a double and triple respectively to put the score at 6-4.
The Tigers final four runs came across in the seventh. Connecticut's two through five hitters led off with a single and then three straight doubles to put the score at 9-4. The final double was off the bat of Corey Baptist who later scored on an RBI single by Jacob Kapstein to give the Tigers a 10-4 lead.
The Doubledays added one final run in the ninth. Ian Sagdal led off with a triple to center and scored on an RBI ground out by Erik VanMeetren.
Connor Overton took the loss for Auburn with the following line: 1.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, and 1 K. Josh Heddinger got the victory for Connecticut with the following line: 5 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, and 1 K.
Tuesday night at 7:05 PM Taylor Hearn gets the ball in the series finale for the Doubledays against Spenser Watkins for the Tigers.
