Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

Wappingers Falls, NY (8/10/15)- The Hudson Valley Renegades were defeated by the Aberdeen IronBirds on Monday evening by a score of 7-0 at Dutchess Stadium.

Aberdeen took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as after Renegades starting pitcher Roel Ramirez (3-2) recorded the first two outs, left fielder D.J. Stewart hit a solo home run over the left field wall to give the IronBirds a 1-0 lead.

That lead grew to 3-0 in the top of the fourth inning on RBI singles by third baseman Austin Pfeiffer and right fielder Mike Odenwaelder, driving in first baseman Steve Laurino and designated hitter Randy Gassaway respectively.

Aberdeen scored three more runs in the top of the fifth inning as Gassaway drove in a pair of runs on a double and scored on a RBI double by Pfeiffer. Both players finished the night with two RBI each.

That ended the night for Ramirez who took the loss after giving up six runs off 10 hits in five innings of work. Aberdeen extended their lead to 7-0 in the top of the sixth inning on a RBI single by Stewart, who also ended the contest with two RBI.

That was all the run support that Aberdeen's starting pitcher Cristian Alvarado (1-1) needed as he scattered three hits in six shutout innings of work while striking out five in the win.

Diego Castillo ended the night on a high note for the Renegades as he tossed two scoreless innings out of the bullpen and struck out four batters.

With the result, the Renegades fell to 22-27 while the IronBirds improved their record to 24-25.

Notes: Jose Paez continues to enjoy hitting within the confines of Dutchess Stadium during the 2015 season. The Renegades left fielder went two-for-two on the evening and saw his batting average improve to .321 (18-56) at home. He also has four multi-hit games at home and six overall on the season.
