Erie SeaWolves News Release

The SeaWolves fell behind early in game one of Wednesday night's doubleheader at Hadlock Field, but battled back to take down the Portland Sea Dogs 4-3.

Portland jumped ahead in the first against Erie starter Warwick Saupold. Manuel Margot led off, walked and stole second. With two outs, Tim Roberson smacked his second home run of the season to left-center for a 2-0 Portland lead.

The Dogs extended the lead in the third. Margot led off, singled and stole second. Carlos Asuaje laid down a sacrifice bunt, pushing Margot to third. Sam Travis followed with a single, plating Margot for a 3-0 lead.

Portland starter Aaron Wilkerson cruised through the first four innings of the game, facing two over the minimum and not allowing a runner past first. That changed in the top of the fifth. Erie loaded the bases on a pair of one-out singles home Connor Harrell and Harold Castro. Wade Gaynor walked, loading the bases for the top of the lineup. Wilkerson struck out Wnyton Bernard for the second out bringing Jason Krizan to the plate. Krizan ripped a bases-clearing double down the right field line, tying the game. Krizan has plated 10 with the bases loaded this season. JaCoby Jones followed with a base hit to left pushing Krizan to third. On the play, Jones got caught in a rundown, made it safely back to first and Krizan scored for the go-ahead run.

Matt Crouse earned the save, his second in as many chances, tossing two scoreless frames in relief of Saupold to preserve the win.

Saupold (4-6) allowed three runs on six hits with a walk and no strikeouts in five innings.
