LAST GAME: The B-Mets beat Altoona, 13-6, Tuesday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field to open the series. Binghamton scored the final 12 runs of the game, including multiple in three of their last four at-bats. Gavin Cecchini and TJ Rivera each had four hits from the top two spots in the lineup, while Brock Peterson had three. Binghamton matched their season high by belting three home runs. Three B-Met relievers combined to toss four no-hit innings to close out the victory.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Robert Gsellman is making his 13th start with Binghamton and second against Altoona. Gsellman made his Double-A debut at Peoples Natural Gas Field, allowing six runs in four innings for a loss. It was the first of two back-to-back losses to open his Double-A career. The six runs allowed in that start are still a season-high. More recently, Gsellman has four victories in his last five starts and has not allowed an earned run in the last two. In fact, Gsellman has allowed a total of two earned run over his last five starts combined.
ALTOONA STARTER: RHP Chad Kuhl is making his 22nd start with Altoona and the first of his career against Binghamton. Kuhl is 4-1 in his last nine starts, coming off back-to-back no decisions. Kuhl has a 1.56 ERA in his last six starts, allowing six earned runs and five unearned. In fact Kuhl has not allowed an earned run in four of the six starts. He has a 1.82 ERA since June 13th. Most recently, Kuhl allowed four runs and seven hits over five innings against Akron, earning a no-decision. This will be his fourth straight start at home and sixth in his last seven.
VS. ALTOONA: The B-Mets are in a stretch of playing seven of their final 29 games against Altoona. This is their last visit to Peoples Natural Gas Field. The B-Mets are 2-2 against Altoona this season, but have won the last two meetings. The B-Mets have outscored Altoona 18-9 in the two wins, after getting outscored 15-5 in the two losses.
DEFENSE WINS?: These two teams have committed the most errors in the league, including three between the two teams in Tuesday's game. Yet, that hasn't stopped the clubs from getting out to a combined 123-105 record this season. Binghamton's 114 errors are only bested by Altoona's 138. Altoona has committed 17 errors in their last 11 games, while Binghamton has committed 37 in their last 32.
JARED IS KING: Jared King has driven in 15 runs over his last 18 games, going 6-for-11 when batting with RISP during that time, while batting eighth or ninth in all 18 games. King has hit safely in five straight games, going 7-for-14 with a home run and seven RBI.
WELCOME BACK: TJ Rivera has recorded multiple hits in four of his eight games since returning from Las Vegas (AAA), including Tuesday night. Rivera enjoyed his first career multi-homer game in Tuesday's win, matching season-high's with four hits and three RBI. Rivera is batting .341 with the B-Mets this season.
MILESTONE: Brock Peterson hit his 200th career home run in Tuesday's win, and ninth with the B-Mets.
EQUALING OUT: LJ Mazzilli is batting .156 (10-for-64) in his 16 games since going 4-for-4 against Trenton on July 23rd. He has three hits in his last 27 at-bats.
K-ROD: Josh Rodriguez is hitless in last 15 at-bats, with seven of them ending in strikeout. Rodriguez has still gotten on base, drawing eight walks and getting hit by a pitch over the five games.
2 FOR 1: Gavin Cecchini has nine multiple hit games in his last 14, including four in Tuesday's win. He is batting .435 in his last 14 games.
NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets conclude their series with Altoona Thursday at 7:00 PM. RHP Rainy Lara gets the ball against RHP Matt Benedict.
