Crawford home run breaks tie for eventual win

The Reading Fightin Phils (66-50) are red hot as they defeated the Harrisburg Senators (56-61) 8-4 on Wednesday night. They are now on a nine-game winning streak and have won their third straight series. Reading has won four out of their last five series.

Harrisburg took a 1-0 lead off Joely Rodriguez in the top of the third inning as Isaac Ballou scored on a RBI groundout from Wilmer Difo. The Fightin Phils hit four consecutive singles in the bottom of the fourth inning off Matt Purke that led to a 2-1 lead. Nick Williams and JP Crawford scored on a two-run single by Brock Stassi.

Difo hit a two-run home run with two outs off Rodriguez in the top of the fifth inning that gave Harrisburg a 3-2 lead. Angelo Mora tied the game at 3-3 on a wild pitch by Purke in the bottom of the fifth inning. Rodriguez allowed three runs in five innings. Reinier Roibal entered the game in the top of the sixth inning.

JP Crawford led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a solo home run off reliever Bryan Harper to give Reading a 4-3 lead. Brock Stassi scored on an error by Difo and Rene Garcia hit a RBI single that scored Harold Martinez that extended Reading's lead to 6-3. Roibal tossed two scoreless innings in relief while Edubray Ramos pitched a scoreless top of the eighth inning.

Art Charles hit a pinch-hit two-run home run off reliever Paul Demny in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Fightin Phils an 8-3 lead. Jimmy Cordero entered the game in the top of the ninth inning. Shawn Pleffner scored on an error by JP Crawford to cut Reading's lead to 8-4. Cordero struck out Isaac Ballou to end the game.

The Fightin Phils and Harrisburg Senators wrap up their season series on Thursday night. First pitch is at 7:05 pm. Fans can listen to the game on CBS Sports Radio 1240 AM/98-5 FM and fightins.com beginning at 6:35 pm. Fans can view the game on MiLB.tv beginning at 7:05 pm.
