Sea Dogs and SeaWolves Split Doubleheader at Hadlock

Portland, Maine- The Sea Dogs and Erie SeaWolves split a doubleheader on Wednesday night at Hadlock Field. Erie (46-69) took game one 4-3 and Portland (42-75) won game two 6-4.

Portland took an early lead in game one thanks to a two-run homer by Tim Roberson in the bottom of the first inning. Sam Travis would add an RBI single in the third to score Manuel Margot and give the Sea Dogs a 3-0 lead.

Aaron Wilkerson had allowed just two baserunners through the first four innings, but Erie rallied in the top of the fifth. After Erie loaded the bases, Jason Krizan came through with a bases-clearing three-run double with two outs to tie the game. JaCoby Jones would follow up with a single and Krizan came around to score after Jones got into a rundown and got back to first base safely.

Warwick Saupold (4-6) earned the win in game one, allowing three earned runs on six hits in five innings. Aaron Wilkerson (0-1) was handed the loss, allowing four earned runs on six hits in six innings, walking one and striking out six.

In game two, the Sea Dogs struck first once again when Aneury Tavarez delivered a two-run single in the second inning off of Austin Kubitza. Jordan Weems followed up with an RBI single to give Portland another 3-0 lead.

Once again, Erie would rally back to tie the game. In the top of the third, Erie loaded the bases with nobody out against Heri Quevedo. Harold Castro scored the first SeaWolves run on a wild pitch, then later in the inning James Robbins hit a two-out, two-run single up the middle to tie the game at three.

The Sea Dogs answered in the bottom of the third on a two-out, three-run home run by Dustin Lawley over the video board to give Portland a 6-3 lead. The homer was Lawley's first since joining the Sea Dogs. James Robbins hit a solo home run to make it 6-4, but Portland would hold the lead for the remainder of the game.

Madison Younginer (6-4) earned the win in relief for Portland in game two, working two innings and allowing one earned run on two hits. Austin Kubitza (7-11) pitched all six innings but was handed the loss for Erie, allowing six earned runs on seven hits. John Cornely picked up his second save of the year for Portland with two scoreless innings of relief.

The series concludes tomorrow afternoon, first pitch comes at noon. Justin Haley (4-13, 6.03) takes the mound for Portland against Tommy Collier (3-1, 3.59) of the SeaWolves.
