Curve Make Most of Mets' Miscues in 5-2 Win

CURVE, Pa. - The Altoona Curve overcame an early deficit and scored three runs in the fourth en route to a 5-2 win over the Binghamton Mets in front of 6,422 fans on Wednesday night at PNG Field.

The Curve (62-55) took advantage of three errors by the Mets (63-52) that led to three unearned runs.

After an RBI single by Adam Frazier tied the game in the third, Altoona scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 4-1 lead. With the bases loaded and no outs, Hunter Morris reached on and a throwing error by Binghamton second baseman L.J. Mazzilli, scoring Jose Osuna to score to tie the score 1-1. .

The Curve scored another run in the inning before Barrett Barnes scored on a wild pitch by Mets starter Robert Gsellman (Loss, 6-6) to extend the lead to 4-1.

A home run by T.J. Rivera off of Curve starter Chad Kuhl (Win, 9-4) put the Mets on the board. Kuhl allowed one run over five innings while striking out four.

Binghamton closed back within two in the sixth inning on sacrifice fly by Vince Belnome.

Altoona added an insurance run in the eighth inning with a bases-loaded walk by Mel Rojas Jr.

Tom Harlan (Hold, 9) worked three innings of relief while allowing one run and striking out six. Jhondaniel Medina (Save, 5) posted a scoreless ninth inning.

Erich Weiss reached base three times while finishing 2-for-3 with a run scored.

The Curve and the Mets finish the three-game series at 7 p.m. on Thursday night. Right-hander Matt Benedict (5-5, 5.57) takes the mound for the Curve. Righty Rainy Lara (5-4, 4.63) will pitch for the Mets.

Thursday is a Thirsty Thursday, featuring 16 oz. Yuengling on special and regular sodas for $2. It is also College Night, and students can bring their college ID to the stadium for a $5 grandstand ticket.
