Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The TinCaps strive to treat their fans to BIG FUN at Parkview Field, and now, they're also offering fans a BIG dessert.
Weighing in at five pounds, the BIG APPLE is a family-sized, batting helmet-ful of deliciousness. The foundation of the BIG APPLE's decadence is four heaping helpings of Parkview Field's signature Apple Crisp. Four hand-made apple dumplings are lovingly placed on top of that apple-y goodness.
If that's not enough, the remaining real estate in the TinCaps souvenir batting helmet are filled with five rich scoops of creamy, vanilla ice cream. The BIG APPLE is then topped with whipped cream, drizzled with hot caramel, and garnished with - what else - delicious red apple slices. Sprinkles are added for good measure. It's a dessert that would most certainly make apple aficionado Johnny Appleseed proud.
"You won't find this anywhere else in the country," TinCaps Executive Chef & Culinary Director Scott Kammerer said of the BIG APPLE. "We're proud to offer one of the healthiest menus in all of Minor League Baseball, but for fans looking to treat themselves, we hope they'll enjoy the masterpiece that is the BIG APPLE.
"This isn't simply a mish-mash of items in a helmet. The apples are fresh. The dumplings are handmade. We blend the spices here. Our apple crisp is a mix of traditional crisp topping and a streussel to make an oatmeal effect. Even our caramel is made in-house so we can intensify its flavor and texture."
The BIG APPLE can be purchased at Parkview Field's Apple Cart on the concourse behind home plate.
TinCaps supporters can also vote for the BIG APPLE in Minor League Baseball's "Food Fight" competition to determine the best ballpark concession item. Fans can vote on Minor League Baseball's website through mid-day on Thursday, July 10. The BIG APPLE is one of 60 items on the voting menu throughout Minor League Baseball.
Fans are welcomed to try the BIG APPLE tonight when the TinCaps host the Dayton Dragons (Cincinnati Reds affiliate) in the finale of a three-game homestand. Fort Wayne has won three consecutive games. In addition to postgame fireworks and Thirsty Thursday pricing ($1.00 domestic draft beer and other drink specials), tonight's TinCaps game is Social Media Night. The team will wear jerseys featuring the Twitter handles of more than 11,000 followers of @TinCaps. Following the game, the jerseys will be given away to 35 lucky fans. Tickets are available online at TinCaps.com, by phone at 260-482-6400, or in-person at the Parkview Field Ticket Office.
