
Hot Rods Use Ugly Inning to Beat Captains 9-3

(Bowling Green, KY)- Bowling Green scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and beat the Captains 9-3. In the inning with two outs and a runner on first the Hot Rods used four wild pitches, a passed ball, three walks, a balk and two hits to score five runs and take the commanding lead. The Hot Rods win snapped the Captains four game win streak.
Bowling Green scored a run on the bottom of the first inning. With the bases loaded an no one out, Armando Araiza grounded into a double play which scored the runner from third and the score was 1-0 BG.
In the bottom of the second inning, Bowling Green added on. With one out, James Harris a solo homer to left field. Yoel Araujo tripled home a run, and Araujo came home to scoe on a single from Kean Wong. The score was 4-0 Hot Rods.
Lake County loaded the bases with two men out in the top of the third inning. Nellie Rodriguez laced a 3-2 pitch off the top of the center field wall and the bases were cleared. Rodriguez ended up at third base, with his second triple of the season. The score was 4-3 Hot Rods.
LHP Luis Lugo (5-5) got the nod for the Captains and took the loss. Lugo pitched five innings and allowed seven hits, four earned runs and two walks. Lugo allowed on homerun and he fanned seven. Wander Beras entered in relief and pitched one and two thirds innings allowing five earned runs on four hits. He walked three and struck out one. Beras balked a run home and threw five wild pitches. Trevor Frank pitched one and one third inning of scoreless baseball while striking out three.
RHP Ryne Stanek (3-3) started for the Hot Rods and did not get a decision. Stanek pitched three innings and allowed four hits and three unearned runs, he walked one and struck out five. Stanek hit one batter. The Hot Rods bullpen allowed just two hits and three walks in six scoreless innings of relief. The win went to Luis Cabrera (1-1) who earned his first win on the season.
The Captains will remain on the road but travel to Dayton, Ohio to take on the Dragons in a four game series. On Friday, the Captains will send RHP Mitch Brown (0-6, 4.06) and Dayton will counter with Nick Travieso (6-3, 3.31). First Pitch is at 7:07 PM from Fifth Third Field.
