Great Lakes Loons News Release
SOUTH BEND, IN - Daniel Palka and Michael Perez homered and the Great Lakes Loons did not score until the ninth inning Thursday night in a 3-1 loss to the South Bend Silver Hawks. Both home runs easily cleared the right field wall.
The game was scoreless until the sixth inning when Loons starter Zachary Bird (4-9) walked Breland Almadova to begin the inning. He then surrendered a two-run home run to Palka, who has now homered six times this season against the Loons.
One inning later, Perez connected on a solo home run off reliever Jordan Hershiser to give the home team a 3-0 advantage.
The Loons brought home their lone run of the game in the ninth against the usually dominant Silvino Bracho. Webster Rivas led off the inning with a triple. He then scored on a ground out by Paul Hoenecke. Jacob Scavuzzo followed with a walk to bring the potential tying run to the plate. But Joey Curletta and Spencer Navin struck out to end the game and give South Bend the series win.

John Omahen (3-2) dominated in six innings, allowing just two hits and four walks, while striking out four. Bracho notched his league-best 13th save despite allowing his second run of the year, allowing a rare walk and hit.
