Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Bowling Green, Ky. - Two big innings propelled the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Class-A/Tampa Bay Rays) to a 9-3 victory over the Lake County Captains (Cleveland Indians) on Thursday night. The Hot Rods plated three runs in the second, and put the game out of reach with five in the sixth.
The scoring began in the first inning when the Hot Rods pushed across one run on a double play, but they opened the game up a bit with three in the second. James Harris lined a home run with one out into the bullpen in left field to stretch the lead to 2-0. Alexander Simon would later draw a walk, and score on Yoel Araujo's triple to right-center field. Kean Wong sent Araujo home with a base hit to center field. Bowling Green led 4-0 after two innings.
Nellie Rodriguez brought Lake County back into the game with a three-run triple, but the Hot Rods would open the game back up in the sixth.
The sixth began harmlessly with two quick outs, but a bloop single by Pat Blair started the surge. Simon then reached on a fielder's choice, and Wander Beras then lost sight of the strike zone. He proceeded to throw four wild pitches in the inning, and also balked home a run. In all, five runs came across. The frame was highlighted by Armando Araiza's run-scoring single.
Luis Cabrera (1-1) was solid out of the Hot Rods bullpen and earned the victory. He worked three and two-thirds innings, and did not surrender a run or hit. He struck out five, and lowered his earned run average to 2.21.
Wong finished the game with three hits, a run batted in, and a double. The night raised his batting average to .324. Araujo, Harris, and Blair also recorded multi-hit nights.
Luis Lugo (5-6) settled down after his rough start in the first and second, but the Lake County starter still took the loss. He allowed four runs on seven hits over five innings.
Bowling Green now embarks on a seven-game road trip, beginning in Grand Rapids, Mich., against the West Michigan Whitecaps (Detroit Tigers). The four-game series begins Friday night, and first pitch will be hurled at 6:05 p.m. CT. Fans can follow the action on 1340 WBGN - The Ticket beginning at 5:50 p.m. with the Pepsi Pre-Game Show. The Hot Rods return home on July 4, highlighted by a double-fireworks show following the game. For tickets and more information, fans can visit BGHotRods.com or call 270-901-2121.
