Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
South Bend, IN - Dustin Biell smacked his third home run of the season on Wednesday night, but the Hot Rods dropped the first of a three-game series to Lake County by the final of 3-1. The loss is the third straight for Bowling Green, leaving their playoff elimination number at seven with 12 games to go in the regular season.
Biell's blast led off the top of the eighth inning against Lake County relief pitcher Jeremy Johnson. In an 0-1 count, Biell smoked a line drive that easily cleared the wall in right-center field to put the Hot Rods on the board with their first run of the game. It was Biell's third home run of the season, his first in 173 at-bats dating back to the first game of a doubleheader in Dayton on May 21.
Unfortunately for Biell and the Hot Rods, that home run was the highlight of their night offensively. Lake County starter Jason Knapp held the Hot Rods to just one hit, a fifth-inning single from Tomas Francisco, over five shutout frames. He struck out six before turning the ball over to the bullpen to complete the game one victory.
Wilking Rodriguez took the loss for Bowling Green allowing a pair of runs, both on solo home runs, over five innings of work. He gave up just five hits while walking one and striking out another to fall to 4-10 on the season.
The Hot Rods and Captains meet up for game two of the series on Thrifty Thursday presented by All Hit WUHU and Beaver 96.7 FM. First pitch is at 6:35 PM and features a variety of $2 specials, including bigger draft beers, medium sodas, nachos, pizza slices, and popcorn. Kids Play Area Passes are also just $2 for the game. Gates open at 5 PM for Season Ticket Holders and 5:30 PM for the general public.
RHP Yorman Mayora (1-0, 4.86) gets the ball on Thursday night in his first start in a Hot Rods uniform. He'll face Lake County LHP Giovanni Soto (9-7, 2.79). You can listen to the game on the radio with Tom Gauthier and Hank Fuerst beginning at 6:20 PM on 1340 WBGN and www.bghotrods.com.
