South Bend Silver Hawks News Release

South Bend, IN - With a 7-4 win over the Dayton Dragons on Wednesday night, the South Bend Silver Hawks have now won three in a row and six of their last seven games. With West Michigan and Lansing going head-to-head, the Silver Hawks will gain on one of the two teams ahead of them in the standings as the Eastern Division playoff race tightens up.

South Bend starter Adam Worthington (WP, 5-5) turned in his second great start, allowing just two runs over 6.2 innings for the victory. Worthington, who had been 0-4 as a starter before his last outing, has won two straight games and allowed just three runs in his last 13.2 innings on the mound. Wednesday night, the right-hander gave up five hits while striking out three and walking only one Dragons hitter.

South Bend took control of the game by scoring in every inning from the second to the sixth. Victor Estevez had a two run double in the second inning and a RBI single in the fifth to lead the offensive charge. Estevez was also hit by a pitch and scored in the third while walking in the seventh to reach base all four times he came to the plate.

David Nick provided the run in the third inning with a solo home run to left field. Nick's blast was his seventh of the season and his 44th RBI.

Keon Broxton drove home Estevez in the fourth, and then Bobby Borchering scored on Estevez's hit in the fifth to make it a 5-2 game. After Nick tripled in the sixth, Ramon Castillo followed with a two-out double to turn it into a 6-2 game.

After the Dragons got an unearned run in the top of the eighth against Bradin Hagens (ND), Castillo added another RBI double in the bottom of the inning to give the Silver Hawks a 7-3 lead.

Brian Budrow (ND) allowed a harmless run in the top of the ninth before getting the final outs in the Silver Hawks victory.

Daniel Corcino (LP, 1-1) allowed five runs in his 4.2 innings to suffer his first Midwest League loss for the Dragons. Dayton's four game winning streak came to a close on Wednesday night.

The Silver Hawks continue the home series with Dayton on a Thirsty Thursday at 6:30 PM Eastern Time.
