Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
Beloit, WI -- The TinCaps fell behind 2-0 in the first inning against the Snappers Saturday night and could never recover in a 7-1 setback. Tyler Stubblefield's RBI double in the third inning to score Brian Adams served as Fort Wayne's only offense.
Beloit (16-6, 59-33) scored twice before Fort Wayne starter Bryan Rodriguez (1-4) recorded an out. The Snappers loaded the bases and received all the offense they'd need on a two-run single by Renato Nunez.
Fort Wayne (7-15, 50-41) trimmed its deficit in half in the third with Stubblefield's fifth double in his last six games. However, Beloit starter Deyvi Jimenez wouldn't allow another run in his six innings. Jimenez (2-0) scattered five hits and struck out five.
The Snappers pushed their lead back to two thanks to an opposite-field solo home run by Matt Olson in the third. The home then then put the game out of reach with three more runs in the fifth to go ahead 6-1. Rodriguez hit the number nine batter Ryan Delgado to lead it off and then allowed a double to Aaron Shipman. Brett Vertigan brought Delgado home with a sacrifice fly. After Diego Goris committed an error on a grounder to first base, Nunez doubled home Shipman. Later, with the bases loaded, Rodriguez hit Ryan Matthews to force in a run. Beloit bolstered its lead to 7-1 in the eighth with a run on a Vertigan groundout to score Delgado.
The TinCaps play the middle game of their series against the Snappers on Sunday afternoon at 3:00. Joe Ross (3-4, 4.07) starts for Fort Wayne against Beloit's Dakota Bacus (8-3, 3.95). The game can be heard on The Fan 1380 and TheFanFortWayne.com.
