Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
Grand Chute, WI - In a 13-inning game that lasted three hours and 59 minutes, the TinCaps triumphed at Wisconsin Friday night with an 8-6 victory over the Timber Rattlers. Wisconsin's Taylor Wall walked Luis Domoromo with the bases loaded to score Diego Goris for the decisive go-ahead run in the top of the 13th inning.
Goris began the 13th with a single against the left-hander Wall (1-2), who had just entered the game. Rodney Daal followed with a single as well to put runners at first and second base. Each runner advanced a base on a sacrifice bunt by Chris Burke. Wall intentionally walked Corey Adamson to load the bases for Domoromo, who drew the walk on a 3-2 pitch. The TinCaps added an insurance run courtesy of an RBI groundout by Tyler Stubblefield.
Fort Wayne (7-14, 50-40) relied on Matt Chabot (3-1) to throw the final three innings of the game. The TinCaps' sixth pitcher of the night scattered two hits and two walks, while striking out three. Chabot's defense helped him out in the bottom of the 11th when he induced a 6-4-3 double play with runners at first and second and only one out against Wisconsin's number three hitter Tyrone Taylor.
The TinCaps prevailed despite coughing up three separate leads in the game. Fort Wayne led 1-0 after Goris grounded out to score Mallex Smith in the top of the first inning. Wisconsin (9-12, 38-48) tied the game against TinCaps starter Matthew Shepherd in the second with a Max Walla single to plate Mike Garza.
Burke bombed a two-run home run in the fourth to put Fort Wayne in front 3-1. But the Timber Rattlers pounced for three in the fifth. Orlando Arcia scored two runs with a triple and Alfredo Rodriguez executed a suicide squeeze bunt to plate Arcia and give the Rattlers a 4-3 edge.
Corey Adamson singled home Dane Phillips to knot things, 4-4, in the sixth. Later in that inning, Domoromo put the TinCaps on top, as he drove in Burke with a groundout. Maxx Tissenbaum made it 6-4 in the seventh with a single to score Brian Adams.
Wisconsin chipped into Fort Wayne's lead in the eighth. Walla plated Victor Roache with a single. On the play, however, the left fielder Domoromo threw Garza out at home to momentarily preserve the lead. Nevertheless, the Timber Rattlers tied the game in the ninth against TinCaps closer Roman Madrid. Alfredo Rodriguez equalized the score, 6-6, with a single to center that dove home Arcia.
With the win, the TinCaps avoided being swept by the Rattlers. Friday's game matched a June 24 loss to West Michigan as the longest game of the season for Fort Wayne by innings. Only that aforementioned contest lasted longer by time at four hours, 13 minutes.
The TinCaps stay in the Badger State Saturday to begin a three-game series against the Beloit Snappers. Fort Wayne will start right-hander Bryan Rodriguez (1-3, 3.13), while Beloit counters with Deyvi Jimenez (1-0, 7.20). The game can be heard on The Fan 1380 and TheFanFortWayne.com.
