
Beleskey Reassigned, Allen Added From Grizzlies

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.- The Bakersfield Condors, official ECHL affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks, announced today that LW Matt Beleskeyhas been reassigned to the Condors by the Ducks and D Chris Allenwas acquired from the Utah Grizzlies in exchange for future considerations. Allen will make his Condors debut this week when the team travels to Alaska for a three-game series against the Aces. Beleskey was with the Ducks on a road trip in Florida at the time of his reassignment, and will not be traveling with the Condors when they leave for Alaska on Tuesday.
Beleskey, 21, has spent majority of the season with Anaheim, San. A fourth-round draft pick in 2006 by Anaheim, Beleskey has recorded nine points(5g-4a) in 34 games with the Ducks. He also played in 15 American Hockey League (AHL) games this season with Toronto and San Antonio, registering seven points (2g-5a).
A native of Windsor, Ontario, Beleskey played his first pro season in 2008-09, recording 35 points (11g-24a) in 58 games with Iowa of the AHL and suiting up for two games with Anaheim. Beleskey spent his entire major junior career in the Ontario Hockey League with Belleville, where he totaled 221 points in 257 games. In 2007-08, he led Belleville with 90 points.
Allen, 31, is a veteran of 12 professional seasons, following his selection by the Florida Panthers in the third round of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft. He began this season with the Coventry (Eng.) Blaze in the EIHL before coming back across the pond to sign with Utah. He has spent the last five seasons overseas, suiting up primarily in Finland, Norway, Austria and Great Britain. Allen's best statistical season came in 2003-04 with the South Carolina Stingrays, when he put up 13 goals and 38 points in 68 games.
The hard-shooting defenseman has played in 280 professional games in North America, including two in the NHL with Florida and 110 in the AHL, where he produced 13g-34a-47pts.
The Chatham, Ontario, native made a splash in juniors as a 20 year-old, when he blasted home 38 goals and accumulated 94 points in 66 games with the Kingston Frontenacs of the Ontario Hockey League. He was named a First Team All-Canadian Hockey League selection, and he won the Max Kaminsky Trophy as the league's top defenseman.
"We needed a power play defenseman and when he became available we jumped on him," said Head Coach Marty Raymond. "He has a bomb of a shot and he'll do well with us."
Ianiero named captain
F Andrew Ianiero has been named Bakersfield's captain, following the reassignment of LW Shawn Weller to Abbotsford of the AHL. Ianiero, 29, is in his sixth season with the Condors and eighth in professional hockey. He ranks second on the Condors all-time games played at 367. He recently became the 28th player in ECHL history to play in his 500th game. Ianiero is fourth in team history in goals (95), second in assists (195) and third in points (290). This season, Ianiero ranks fourth among active leaders on the team in goals (9), tied for first in assists (21) and third in points (30).
ON THE DOCKET:
The Condors embark on a four-game road swing, which starts by taking them to Anchorage for a three-game series against the Alaska Aces. Games on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday all commence at 8:15 p.m. (Pacific).
After a game the following Friday in Las Vegas, the Condors meet up with a pair of Pacific Division foes at Rabobank Arena. The Wranglers are in town Saturday, Feb. 13 for Timo Pielmeier Youth Jersey Giveaway Night, sponsored by KGET-TV 17, La Preciosa 105.3 and McDonald's. The first 2,000 kids 12 and under will get a #33 Timo replica youth jersey.
On Sunday, Feb. 14 the Condors host Ontario and will wear special Valentine's Day jerseys for a Jersey Off Our Backs Raffle & Auction, sponsored by Bright House Networks, 96.5 Max FM and McDonald's. Fans can walk away with one of five of these special jerseys to be given away. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Ronald McDonald House.
