Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has acquired defenseman Aaron Brocklehurst and future considerations from the Gwinnett Gladiators of the ECHL in exchange for the rights to defenseman Nick St. Pierre.

A second year pro from Nanaimo, British Columbia, Brocklehurst (5'11/194) (24), has scored eight goals and picked up twelve assists (twenty points) and registered forty-seven penalty minutes in forty games with the Gwinnett Gladiators this season. Ten of his points (3g-7a) have come in January, as he ran off a six game point streak (2g-5a7pts) from January 9-18, 2010. Last year, Brocklehurst began the season with the Florida Everblades where he picked up twenty points in thirty-seven games prior to be traded to the Victoria Salmon Kings of the ECHL in early February. While with the Everblades, Brocklehurst earned a selection to the 2009 ECHL All-Star Game held in Reading, Pennsylvania in late January and a four game call-up to the Lake Erie Monsters of the AHL. After joining Victoria, Brocklehurst registered nine points (2g-7a) in twenty-three regular season games. He also picked up five points (2g-3a) in nine playoff games for Victoria, as the Salmon Kings advanced to the West Division Finals where they were eliminated by the Alaska Aces. Prior to turning pro, Brocklehurst played four seasons of collegiate hockey with the St. Cloud State Huskies, where he was a teammate with former Royal Brock Hooton (also a Nanaimo, BC native) for his freshman and sophomore years. In his senior season with the Huskies, Brocklehurst was the leading scoring defenseman for the team with twenty-two points (4g-18a) in forty games. In 148 total games at St. Cloud State, Brocklehurst racked up seventeen goals, assisted on forty-six others and picked up 119 penalty minutes. St. Pierre registered fourteen points (6g-8a) and twenty-three penalty minutes in thirty-two games with the Royals prior to leaving the team two weeks ago.

The Royals are off until Friday night (February 5, 2010 @ 7:00 pm) when the team travels to the Sun National Bank Center in Trenton, New Jersey, where they'll face the Trenton Devils for the ninth time this season. The Royals game night broadcast on the Royals Radio Network presented by Transmissions by Arbogast will kick off with the pre-game warm-up show at 6:30 pm.
