Bees Split Twin Bill with Redbirds

After a rain out last night, the Salt Lake Bees faced the Memphis Redbirds for a doubleheader at Smith's Ballpark on Wednesday night. The Bees suffered their 18th one-run loss of the season in game one, falling 2-3, before claiming a 9-8 extra-inning victory in game two. The two teams combined for seven home runs on the night with Brennan Boesch responsible for three.

Joel Piniero pitched six shut-out innings in game one and the Bees led 2-0 entering the seventh inning before Xavier Scruggs knocked a home run to bring the Redbirds within one. Piniero allowed an additional hit before Yoslan Herrera came in in relief. Pete Kozma blasted a two-run shot to put the Redbirds up for good. Boesch and Roberto Lopez headlined the Bees' offense with one home run a piece. Zach Petrick (4-3) earned the win while Herrera (0-3) was handed the loss.

The Bees recovered quickly for game two, exploding to score seven runs in the first two innings. Tommy Field knocked his third home run of the year and Boesch slammed his second and third of the night. The Redbirds rallied back to knot the game at eights in the sixth. The game would remain tied until Grant Green cracked a double in the bottom of the ninth and Efren Navarro singled to bring in the winning run. Jeremy Berg (3-2) took the win for the Bees with Jorge Rondon (2-2) taking the loss.

Smith's Ballpark will host Bee Healthy Week beginning tomorrow and running through June 21. The event will include Bee Healthy Challenges in the concourse during each game. For more information and tickets visit slbees.com .
