
Rivero Added to I-Cubs Bullpen

Des Moines, IA - The Chicago Cubs have promoted RHP Armando Rivero to Iowa from double-A Tennessee. LHP Jeff Antigua has been activated from Iowa's disabled list and assigned to Tennessee, and RHP Marcos Mateo has been placed on the disabled list.
Rivero went 2-1 with a 1.56 ERA (6ER/34.2IP) in 26 games for the Smokies. He recorded 54 strikeouts compared to just 16 walks and was fourth in the Southern League with 10 saves. Rivero leaves the Southern League with the lowest opponents' batting average (.153) and the most strikeouts per nine innings (14.02) among relievers, and was named a mid-season All-Star for the first time. The 26-year-old Cuban native is in his second season in the United States and went a combined 0-1 with a 4.15 ERA (14ER/30.1IP) and 45 strikeouts in 20 relief appearances between low-A Kane County, high-A Daytona and Tennessee.
Antigua compiled a 3.06 ERA (6ER/17.2IP) with 12 strikeouts and only two walks in 10 relief appearances with the I-Cubs this year. He has a career 34-23 mark with a 3.14 ERA (214ER/552IP), 501 strikeouts and three saves in eight seasons in the Cubs organization.
Mateo has no record, a 5.94 (11ER/16.2IP) ERA and two saves in 17 appearances for the Cubs this season.
The Cubs and Chihuahuas wrap up their four-game series by playing their final meeting on the year tonight at 7:05 from Principal Park. RH Kyle Hendricks (7-3, 3.78) toes the slab for the Cubs against RH Donn Roach (0-0, 0.71). The game will be broadcast live on AM 940 and streamed live at iowacubs.com with the On-Deck Pre-Game Show starting at 6:45 p.m.
