LHP Justin Marks Claimed, Optioned to Round Rock

ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Texas Rangers announced Tuesday that they have claimed LHP Justin Marks off waivers and optioned him to the Round Rock Express.

Marks, 26, has split the majority of the season between Omaha (Kansas City Triple-A affiliate) and Sacramento (Oakland) in the Pacific Coast League, going a combined 3-2 with a 5.03 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 17 appearances (two starts). He began the season in the Royals organization, and on April 20, made his major league debut with Royals. On June 5, the left-hander was traded to Oakland for cash considerations and assigned to the River Cats. He pitched 1.0 inning against the Express on June 18.

A native of Owensboro, KY, Marks was selected by Oakland in the third round of the 2009 first-year player draft out of the University of Louisville, where he went 29-7 with a 2.96 ERA and 305 strikeouts in three years. On November 10, 2010, he was traded to Kansas City, along with RHP Vin Mazzaro, for OF David DeJesus.

A corresponding move will be made once Marks is activated.
